Who can apply for a fellowship at the College for Life Sciences?
Post-doctoral fellows, junior lecturers/assistant professors, and early-career principal investigators as well as clinicians from all fields in the life sciences may apply.
If you have been a principal investigator for longer than five years, you are advised to apply for a regular fellowship at the Wissenschaftskolleg.

When can I apply for a fellowship?
What should my application include?
A complete application includes:
- a project proposal (max. 1000 words)
- a letter of motivation (max. 500 words)
- a list of 5 selected publications and a list of all applications

Who selects the Fellows?
Applications are reviewed by the scientific committee composed of internationally recognized life scientists. The names and affiliations of the current members of the selection committee can be found here. Applications are judged on the quality and significance of the proposed project and the applicant’s record of achievement and promise.
What other benefits does the fellowship include?
On-campus studio accommodation and excellent library and IT services. Daily meals and relocation assistance, travel costs, help with immigration documents, and registration with local authorities.
What are my duties as a Fellow?
Your main obligation is to participate in weekly colloquia held each Tuesday and involving all Fellows of the Wissenschaftskolleg. You are also required to attend daily lunches and a common weekly dinner served each Thursday.
At the end of your fellowship, you are expected to produce a short text describing your research and experience at the College for publication in a yearbook.
Can I apply as a team?
You may exceptionally apply as a pair or a small group (up to 3) with a common research project. Please clearly explain the reasons for a joint application. A team is admitted only if all its individual members are favorably evaluated by the selection committee.
May I invite a guest or a collaborator to the College?
Successful candidates can invite academic guests and collaborators for short stays (from a couple of days to two weeks), if the Wissenschaftskolleg has guestrooms available at that particular time. The College will fund these stays of your designated guests. Such visits may be scheduled before or during your residency and must be arranged with the program coordinator.
